So while individual workouts might not be the quickest route to weight loss, they indeed offer substantial benefits beyond just offsetting caloric intake. Regular exercise slightly increases your body's calorie-burning rate even when you're not working out. Moreover, the fat that you lose through increased activity consists nearly entirely of fat, sparing muscle.
Doing the Math: Losing Weight Through Exercise and Calorie Cutting
Start with this number: 3,500 caloriesthe amount stored in one pound of body fat. With this figure, you can estimate how much weight you might lose by boosting your activity level or adjusting your diet. Let's delve into some simple calculations:
Walking or jogging uses roughly 100 calories per mile. Precisely the number of calories burned deps on factors including your weight and walking speed; however, for simplicity, let's assume this rate.
