Enhancing the Efficiency and Security of Cloud Storage through Distributed Hash Table-based Systems

Abstract:

The advent of cloud computing has revolutionized data storage, offering unparalleled convenience, scalability, and accessibility. However, despite its numerous advantages, traditional centralized cloud storage solutions still suffer from several limitations including reduced efficiency in data management, enhanced vulnerability to security threats due to single points of flure, increased costs associated with managing data redundancies across multiple servers, and potential data loss due to server flures.

This paper explore the innovative approach proposed by distributed hash table DHT-based systems as a solution to these issues. The DHT is an alternative architecture for building large-scale distributed systems that can significantly improve upon traditional cloud storage methods.

Key Components of DHT-based Systems:

  1. Decentralization: Unlike centralized systems, DHTs are decentralized which reduces the risk of single points of flure. This ensures more robust and reliable data storage where no single server is overloaded or responsible for the entire system's operations.

  2. Efficient Data Lookup: DHTs utilize a distributed lookup algorithm that enables nodes to find each other quickly based on their IP addresses, allowing rapid access to stored data across multiple servers without requiring centralized control.

  3. Scalability and Load Balancing: The decentralized nature of DHTs allows them to scale seamlessly by adding or removing nodes as needed. This is particularly beneficial in the dynamic environment of cloud computing where demand for storage can fluctuate significantly over time.

  4. Security Enhancements: Due to their distributed nature, DHT-based systems offer enhanced security agnst attacks like denial-of-service DoS and unauthorized data access because there isn't a single node that carries all the sensitive information or handles all requests, thus reducing the risk of data breaches.

  5. Redundancy Management: These systems automatically handle data redundancy through replication or erasure coding across multiple nodes, ensuring fault tolerance in case of server flures without manual intervention needed for data backup and restoration.

  6. Cost-Effectiveness: By eliminating centralized hardware requirements, DHT-based cloud storage solutions can offer significant cost savings on infrastructure mntenance and scaling up operations.

:

Distributed hash table DHT based systems provide a promising alternative to traditional centralized cloud storageby addressing several limitations such as reduced efficiency in data management, enhanced vulnerability to security threats, increased costs associated with managing data redundancies, and potential data loss due to server flures. The benefits of decentralized architectures, efficient data lookup mechanisms, scalable load balancing capabilities, improved security measures, automatic redundancy management, and cost-effectiveness collectively make DHT-based systems a robust choice for enhancing the efficiency and security of cloud storage solutions.
